If you lock yourself out of your home, don’t panic. It’s never an ideal situation, but you will be able to get around it as long as you stay calm and think about what to do. It’s one of those situations in life that will affect lots of people at one time or another, so here are some steps to take if you find yourself locked out:
- Ask someone for help. Speak to neighbours and friends to see if you can stay with them for a while rather than waiting on your own outside. It’s important that you consider your personal safety as well as sorting out the situation.
- Look for alternative entrances. Is there a window that can be prised open? Might you have left a back door key with a neighbour?
- Get your locks changed. Whilst this might be a little bit expensive, it’s the best way to gain entrance without causing any damage to your property. It will also ensure that nobody can access your property if you’re worried that you might have lost your keys. This is important for the security of your property as well as for your peace of mind.
