Security can be a rewarding career. It can also be a very tough career, meaning it isn’t a career path to embark upon lightly. Here are some of the most common difficulties facing security guards, and how to overcome them:
- Violence. If you have to detain somebody, it’s possible that they may become violent. You need to make sure you are confident in defending yourself and restraining a person safely. You must have adequate training for this.
- Lack of understanding of the law. A security guard needs to know when somebody may be facing arrest and when to let an issue lie. Keep abreast of the law and have a good understanding of it.
- Lack of ongoing training. Make sure you employer provides good training. You may not have to deal with any incidents for long stretches of time so it can be easy to forget what you have learned.
